Championing excellence in public education through training, advocacy and service for local school boards

Governmental Relations

The Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) bylaws state that the organization’s primary purpose is to serve as an advocate for public education. Among the ways ASBA does this are:

  • Counsel and lobby the Department of Education, legislators and others in regard to effective education policies and school legislation (and encourage local board members to do the same)
  • Determine official positions of ASBA and adopt resolutions through its Delegate Assembly
  • Encourage concerted cooperation of local school boards in providing solutions to statewide public school problems

Every year ASBA meets with Arkansas’ Congressional delegation to discuss education policy and to request their assistance regarding issues of concern. ASBA’s Legislative Team (see link at right) is active throughout the year, not just when the Arkansas General Assembly is in session.
