No Child Left Behind The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 was signed into law in January of 2002. The intent of the NCLB legislation was to require that schools be held accountable for student academic achievement, that schools use research-based methods in the classroom and that school report cards be developed and provided annually to parents. Additionally, NCLB requires additional assistance for students who do not score at proficient levels and, in some cases, allows for school choice. The sweeping changes brought about as a result of the NCLB legislation have been much discussed by state lawmakers, board members, educators and parents.
