ASBA Workers Compensation Trust
The ASBA Workers' Compensation Trust is regulated by the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission (AWCC). The ASBA Trust is administered by ASBA and overseen by a nine-member board. Claims are administered by a third party. For more information about the program and claim forms click here.
Federal Automated Recovery Systems (FARS)
FARS is a subsidiary of the Infinity Business Group of Companies. The system was formed to help educational institutions and organizations that accept checks to successfully recover those checks that are returned NSF or otherwise dishonored. View the brochure (pdf).
ASBA endorses this program and encourages school districts to become involved. Some frequently asked questions are addressed below. To learn more or join the system, contact Paulette Walker by email or (800) 482-1212.
How much does the service cost?
Electronic NSF check collection is FREE! Traditional methods are not free. If traditional methods have to be used to collect the item, FARS will split the collected amount 75/25%.
When does my district receive the collected money?
All NSF checks collected are paid daily*. FARS can not guarantee when or if a check will be collected. Experience shows collection of up to 85% of received checks. Depending on the organization, this rate could vary.
*FARS reimburses each business day after holding funds for 7 days as required by law.
How often will my district be billed?
You are never billed for NSF checks recovered electronically. The check writer pays for the NSF check fee as allowed by state law. For checks that cannot be collected electronically due to age of check (over 6 months old), account closed, stop payment, etc., FARS will initiate 'hard collections' on your behalf. This process is complicated and costly. FARS will forward 75% of the face amount of the check, keeping 25% to defer costs.
What do banks think?
Banks are regulated by the same governing authority as FARS is, National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA). They must abide by the same laws.
