ASBA Educational Foundation Scholarship

ASBA Scholarship Program
Beginning in 1982, the ASBA Educational Foundation has awarded college scholarships to children of Arkansas school board members. The awards are based on a student's academic record and leadership potential. One award is made in each of the four congressional districts, and one at-large.

Eligibility for the scholarships will be based on the following criteria:

  • Recipients must be the sons/daughters of publicly elected Arkansas school board members;
  • The school board member-parent must be serving on his/her local board on Sept. 1 of the school year in which the scholarship is awarded;
  • The grants will be one-time scholarships to entering freshmen at Arkansas two-year or four-year institutions of higher education;
  • Each scholarship amount will be at least $650.00.

The scholarships applications will be evaluated on the following:

  • Academic performance;
  • Demonstrated need;
  • Demonstrated leadership;
  • Three letters of recommendation, one each:
    1. from a teacher;
    2. from a principal or assistant principal, and
    3. from a member of the community;
  • A counselor-completed form and statement, to include:
    1. student's grade point;
    2. class standing (rank and size of class);
    3. PACT/PSAT/ACT/SAT score(s);
    4. other pertinent information;
  • Student's official transcript;
  • An essay written by the student applicant of no more than 500 words expressing goals, future plans, past activities, life/educational influences, and a statement about how the scholarship would help the student to achieve his/her education and goals.

The deadline for the scholarship application is April 1 of the year in which the student will enter college. Recipients and their parents will be recognized at the annual ASBA Conference in December.
