Dr. Dan Award 2025 - Nominations Open

The Arkansas School Boards Association is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Dr. Daniel L. Pilkinton Award for Outstanding Service to Public Education.

Established in 1993, this prestigious award honors the legacy of Dr. Daniel L. (Dr. Dan) Pilkinton, a lifelong advocate for Arkansas public education and the first executive secretary of ASBA. Dr. Dan’s distinguished career included decades of service in school leadership, governmental affairs, and legislation. His contributions have shaped the foundation of ASBA and supported countless education professionals across the state.

The Dr. Dan Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant, lasting contribution to public education in Arkansas. Nominees may include school board members, administrators, teachers, school attorneys, school employees, legislators, elected officials, or school patrons. Nominations may be based on a singular notable act or sustained service over a period of years.

Who Can Nominate:

  • ASBA-member school boards

  • Superintendents of ASBA-member districts

  • Individual school board members

  • Nominations must include the nominee’s name, a description of their contributions, and any supporting data that highlights their qualifications.

  • All nominations are valid for up to three years after submission.

  • The nomination deadline is October 15, 2025.

The 2025 Dr. Dan Award recipient will be announced at the ASBA Annual Conference Awards Ceremony on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
