Registration is now open for the 2026 ASBA New Board Member Institute, scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the DoubleTree Hot Springs, or you may attend virtually.
Election to the school board marks an exciting new chapter of leadership and service. As newly elected members step into this role, ASBA is ready to provide the knowledge, resources, and guidance needed to start strong. One of the best places to begin is the New Board Member Institute.
This one-day workshop is designed for new board members and those seeking a refresher. The session meets state-mandated training requirements and provides practical guidance to help you feel informed and confident in your role.
Topics include:
The roles, powers, and responsibilities of school board members
Introduction to school finance and how to read and interpret a school audit (state-required)
FOIA and ethics laws
School safety and student discipline (state-required)
How board decisions shape district direction and student success
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of board service, a copy of the ASBA Basics for New School Board Members Handbook, and valuable connections with fellow board members from across Arkansas.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS:
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to cancellations@arsba.org.
Requests received after March 24, 2026, will be refunded at 50%.
